An automatic standby generator sits outside on a pad, connected to your natural gas line or a propane tank. When utility power drops, the automatic transfer switch starts the unit and moves your home onto generator power in seconds, then hands back when the grid returns. We size it to what you want covered, from essential circuits like heat, refrigeration, and internet to the whole house. A complete install from us includes the pad, the transfer switch, coordination with the licensed gas fitter or your propane supplier, the electrical permit and inspection, and commissioning with a walkthrough.

Portable generator inlet and interlock
A portable generator can run your furnace, refrigerator, and lights through the panel instead of extension cords through a window. We install an exterior inlet and a panel interlock so the portable feeds your panel safely with the utility main locked out. The electrical permit and inspection are included. We can supply a tri-fuel portable that runs on gasoline, propane, or natural gas, or wire the inlet for the generator you already own.

Site visit and load assessment
We walk the house, check the panel and gas service, pick a location that meets Generac's clearances, and size the unit to the circuits you want covered.

Installed price
The installed price covers the electrical work, transfer switch, pad, permit, and commissioning. Gas line work is done by a licensed gas fitter we coordinate, and we tell you if the utility needs a meter upgrade.

Gas coordination
Natural gas may need a meter upgrade, so we submit the generator's gas load to the utility and handle that paperwork. The gas line is run and permitted by a licensed gas fitter we coordinate; on propane we coordinate the tank and line with the propane supplier.

Permit, pad, set, wire
We pull the electrical permit under our license, set the pad and generator, mount the transfer switch, and wire it to your panel.

Inspection, commissioning, and walkthrough
After the electrical inspection we commission the unit with a simulated outage, set the weekly exercise timer, then walk you through the controller and what happens when the power goes out.
Annual service and warranty records
Generac's warranty requires scheduled maintenance with proof of service. The weekly self-test is not a service: it runs about five minutes at reduced speed and does not transfer your home's load. Our annual visit follows Generac's factory schedule and logs a dated service record for your warranty. We service Generac home standby units regardless of who installed them. Plans start with a single annual visit; Plus and Premium add remote monitoring by our team.

Questions
How big a generator do I need?
It depends on what you want running when the power is out. Essential circuits like heat, refrigeration, a few lights, and internet fit a smaller unit. A whole house with a heat pump or EV charger takes more capacity, and load management is an option we size for. We size it with a load assessment on the actual house.
Do I need a permit for a standby generator?
Yes. A standby generator needs an electrical permit and inspection, which we pull under our license and schedule. The gas line is run and permitted by a licensed gas fitter we coordinate.
What fuel does it run on?
Natural gas where you have service, propane where you do not. Natural gas needs no tank and no refueling. Propane needs a tank sized for the run time you want, and we coordinate the tank connection with your propane supplier.
Will I need a gas meter upgrade?
Often, for larger units. The utility reviews the total gas load and decides whether the meter or service line needs upgrading. We handle that submission as part of gas coordination.
Can you service a generator someone else installed?
Yes. We service Generac home standby units regardless of who installed them. Send the model and serial number to generators@precisionnw.com and we start a service record against the factory schedule.
